Harbormaster Toys’ Play Rug
Bring the harbor home.
Harbormaster Toy Company makes handcrafted and ecologically responsible wooden toys inspired by the working waterfront. Their wooden fleet of boats, buildings, and accessories lets kids expand their own harbor as their imagination grows.
I produced and illustrated the Harbor Rug, a play rug designed to give one’s fleet a home port, and turn any room into a working harbor. Its colorful landscape of docks, beaches and islands gives the toys plenty of room to roam.

Process
Early on, we settled on an isometric view of a harbor was preferred over a top-down layout. The design needed several distinct areas, including a beach, marina, park and a rocky shore to hold a lighthouse.
I thought carefully about proportions, sizing and color so the rug would feel like a natural extension of the sailors, and boats. The fibers and pile height also shaped how much detail the illustration could hold.
Result
The Harbor Rug creates a comfortable port for play and gives the brand a larger, more immersive way to connect with the audience. By focusing on authenticity, kid-friendly artwork, and visual storytelling, the rug extends Harbormaster’s artisanal appeal and helps the brand stand out to consumers looking for distinctive, eco-friendly toys.
